Course Assignment 3: Graphic Design History Leaflet

Graphic Design
Project Overview
Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean.

The brief for this assignment was to learn about the graphic design history and then make a creative fold for a leaflet that shows the timeline of graphic design styles from the 1950s and up. The leaflet needed to include four different styles throughout the history and they were: The swiss style (ca 1950 - late 1960s), Pop Art style (ca. 1950 - 1970), Psychedelic Poster Style (ca 1960 - mid 1970s) and New Wave/Punk Style (ca 1970 - mid 1980s).

For each style I made a visually grabbing poster that characterises the style from that period and all these posters needed to be unified in some way to create a consistent layout. A lot of these styles was paralleling each other so I made sure to make a timeline that showed this clearly. In each style there had to be a short paragraph about the style and a few influential designers.

I went for a leaflet that would open into a half circle. When folded it would turn into a triangle/cone shape. I went with a black background and the primary colors because these were all common in all the different styles and it symbolises all colors (when mixed).
